Friday in Nebbi

So the end of my first week in Uganda has arrived and Alfred, Caritas Nebbi's Programme Officer, kindly offered to take me out for an end of work beer (some customs seem to be universal!). so we headed off down the hill only to become caught up in a throng of people leaving a football match.

The crowd spilled out of the very basic football ground and made its way down the road to the centre of Nebbi.  Even the most determined of motorcyclists was compelled to wait until the throng had passed!

We then headed for the Gaff (one of the two hotels in Nebbi were we spent an interesting hour chatting informally about the work of Caritas Nebbi and the many challenges it faces as the needs far outstrip the resources and money available.  It was also good to get to know each other a little more as over the coming weeks we will be spending a lot of time together visiting the schools and health clinics Caritas Nebbi supports and meeting those who use their services.

The beer was also very good - Nile Special

The walk back was a challenge (note to self - always carry a torch!) but Alfred kindly guided me back safely and used the torch on his phone!

Torches were needed shortly after I arrived back at base as the power cut out and was only restored around 5am.  Makes Guernsey Electricity's occasional power outages seem but a minor inconvenience!
