On the road to Nebbi

On my journey yesterday, we passed the dramatic Murchison Falls and although the road does not pass near the parts of the falls which drawn many visitors, the scenery was pretty amazing, especially as we are only now about to enter the rainy season.

This was also my first glimpse of the West Nile.  I have seen the Nile in Egypt but there it is a much wider and slower river.  This was far more dramatic and majestic.

The power of the Nile is being harnessed through a hydro-electricity development programme funded by the South Korean government.  I can only hope that once the electricity comes on stream it will be for the benefit of the people of the West Nile region.  Sadly, as in so many of the world's least developed countries the majority of overseas aid travels but a few miles from the capital city.  This is very true in Uganda with very little aid reaching areas such a Nebbi (over 500km from Kampala).  The need here is huge but from the little aid they have Caritas Nebbi has a refugee aid programme to assist those in South Sudan who have even less.  Truly humbling.
