On Safari

Today (Saturday 8 October 2016), I had the opportunity to go on safari in the Murchinson Falls National Park which is located on the banks of the River Nile near Pakwach (about an hour's drive from Nebbi).  Thanks to Alfred's negotiating skills, the entrance fee for a  Mzungu visitor was reduced from $80 to $20 (bargain!).

We had a great day out and were able \to drive around the park in one of Caritas' vehicles and so could stop whenever we spotted some vehicles.  The park is huge (some 100 miles by 20 miles) and is home to:

Ugandan kob
Water buffalo
Impala
Elephants

Another elephant
Giraffe and impala
Wild pig
Wild pig (sleeping in a large puddle)
Ugandan kob
Hippopotamus
Hippopotami (or is is hippopotamuses?)

Giraffe (I think this is my favourite picture!)

We didn't see any lions but no the less a really great day out and wonderful to be able to get so close to such beautiful animals in the wild.

Pictures of birdlife to follow (once I have asked Wayne to identify the species!).

A great end to a wonderful time in Nebbi.  I head back to Kampala next Saturday (15 October 2016) and have a few meeting with NGOs who have received grants from Guernsey's Overseas Aid & Development Commission before flying out of Entebbe Airport on Thursday 20 October 2016.
